Solms Delta Museum

Solms-Delta Wine Estate is positioned between the confluence of the Dwars and the Berg Rivers and surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery. Significant heritage features include a historic wine cellar and stables, the ruins of a 17th century homestead, a Later Stone Age settlement site and a historic well. The estate also houses two heritage museums. The Museum van de Caab tells the story of the long human occupation of the very same piece of land, from the beginnings of human settlement to the establishment of private ownership through colonial viticulture; from the scars left by slavery and apartheid to the establishment of a democratic South Africa. The Museum van de Caab is an internationally celebrated example of how cultural institutions, by highlighting shared histories and cultural heritage, can have a visible impact on the development of societies today. The museum is staffed by local farm residents and the farm itself is owned in partnership by a trust that benefits the estate's historically disadvantaged residents and employees.

The Music van de Caab exhibition explores some of the multi-layered roots of rural Cape music. From human development to indigenous, slave, African, European, and modern cross-cultural influences, the display showcases the rich musical traditions of the Cape.
